When I worked at Columbia two summers ago, the lady who ran the division and hired me left within the week, one of the other developer guys left shortly thereafter, and then my boss left towards the end, meaning that my friend and I were at that point making all the decisions about the web site we maintained.

And we got on-the-clock paid-for going-away dinners each time.

Well, I have a crazy knack for working for people who promptly leave the company after I arrive. Two summers ago my boss was hired by Google and left half way through the summer. Last summer, my boss got a kind of promotiony thing that meant he wasn't going to be in the group anymore.

But there wasn't any screaming and yelling going on, both cases were kind of celebratory for the people involved. I will say that having to work for someone else abruptly is a challenge, but not that bad.

Good luck with your new job situation ...
